Opera in the city of Boston is alive and well and delivering top quality performances to a growing body of opera lovers that, according to everyone you talk with in the know, is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg of the auidience that is out there and willing to give it a try. With its hotels and vibrant shopping districts and beautiful Boston Common and Public Gardens, Boston is one of the premier cities to plan your vacation and while you're here, plan a visit to the opera.

This month, OperaOnline.us thought it would be interesting to ask the people in charge of producing opera how they came to their roles and what lessons they learned along the way to success. And so with that in mind, we would like to introduce our growing opera audience to Carole Charnow, General Director of Opera Boston and Janice Mancini Del Sesto, General Director of Boston Lyric Opera. They spoke openly and candidly about their backgrounds, and in giving the detail they did, may just provide inspiration to others out there who are wondering what the future holds for them. What we learn here is that the future can provide some rewarding surprises to those who listen to their hearts, follow their natural talents and persevere.
If you want to talk opera in Boston, you want to talk with these women first.
